This module is all about restrictive practices. It is specifically for support workers in Victoria and covers the 'what, why, how, who and where' of restrictive practices.
Understanding restrictive practices is of primary importance for support workers and organisations registered to implement behaviour support plans that may include regulated restrictive practices.
Approximate time to complete module: One hour (not including time spent looking at additional resources)
On completion of this module, you will be able to
• define and identify restrictive practices, regulated restrictive practices and prohibited practices
• explain why some practices are restricted or prohibited
• identify when and how a restrictive practice may be used
• recognise who can affect, or be affected by a restrictive practice
• describe the legal obligations that must be met if restrictive practices are used
• identify an unauthorised restrictive practice and the associated reporting obligations, and
• identify the issues and dilemmas surrounding the use of restrictive practices.
