This introduction is the first in a series of three modules that will help you learn about dual disability, the issues facing people with dual disabilities and their families /carers, and support strategies and principles.
We use dual disability to describe intellectual disability or autism in addition to mental ill-health.

Approximate time to complete module: 30 minutes (not including time spent looking at additional resources)

On completion of this module, you will be able to
• Define dual disability
• Articulate the reasons the term ‘dual disability’ can be confusing
• Apply strategies to ensure a shared understanding of the term
• Describe the prevalence and overrepresentation of mental ill-health for people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism
• List the risk factors for mental ill-health for people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism.
